Full read-write Claude connector for Wave

Have Claude draft invoices and record transactions in Wave

Stop typing line items and categorizing transactions by hand. Claude drafts invoices from your agreed amounts, records income and expenses against the right account, and proposes reconciliations against your bank feed, all where your books already live, with sending and payment gated behind your approval.

Wave is accounting and invoicing software built for small businesses and freelancers, covering income, expenses, and customer invoicing. People want Claude to do more than read the books: to draft invoices, record transactions, and reconcile entries where the numbers already live.

What is a Wave MCP server?

A Wave MCP server is a small hosted service that exposes Wave's data and actions to Claude over the Model Context Protocol, so Claude can invoices, payments, and books inside your own account. We build it as a custom connector with separate read and write tools, and destructive actions stay gated behind your approval.

What can Wave's current connector do today?

Today, Wave has no first-party Claude or MCP connector we are aware of, and its API access has historically been limited and invite-based, so out-of-the-box write actions are effectively unavailable. A custom Wave connector can add scoped read and write tools, with confirmation gating, only as far as your account and Wave's available access permit.

What does full read-write Wave access unlock?

Full read-write Wave access lets Claude draft invoices from your line items, record income and expense transactions, attach them to the right customer, and propose reconciliations against your bank feed, then act once you approve. The bookkeeping that used to mean manual entry happens where your ledger already is.

  • Draft a customer invoice from agreed line items and amounts
  • Record an income or expense transaction against the correct account
  • Create or update a customer record
  • Categorize uncategorized transactions and propose reconciliations for review
  • Mark an invoice sent or paid after you approve it

Can Claude create invoices in Wave?

Creating invoices in Wave is exactly what a custom connector enables. Claude drafts an invoice from your agreed line items, amounts, and customer, then leaves it for you to review. Because Wave has limited API access today, this write capability is built deliberately and stays bounded by what your account can do.

Can Claude record income and expense transactions in Wave?

Recording transactions in Wave is supported through scoped write tools. Claude can log an income or expense entry against the correct account, attach it to the right customer, and categorize uncategorized transactions. It proposes reconciliations against your bank feed for review, so the entries are ready before you confirm them.

Will Claude send invoices or mark them paid in Wave without my approval?

Sending an invoice and marking it paid in Wave are separate, gated actions. Claude can prepare the invoice and propose the entry, but the outbound or money-affecting step only runs after you approve it. Drafting and categorizing flow freely, while the connector never has more access than your own Wave login.

How a Wave connector works

We build a small MCP server that connects to Wave through OAuth or scoped API access, using the narrowest permissions the work needs. Read tools (list invoices, read transactions) and write tools (draft invoice, record transaction, send) are kept separate, and outbound or destructive actions like sending an invoice require your confirmation. Claude never has more access than your own Wave account, and we can add IP allowlisting where your setup supports it.

Frequently asked questions

Can Claude actually create invoices in Wave, or only read them?
With a custom Wave connector, Claude can draft an invoice from your line items and customer, then leave it for you to review and send. Because Wave has no standard Claude connector and limited API access today, this write capability has to be built deliberately and stays bounded by what your account can do.
Will Claude send invoices or record payments without my approval?
No. Sending an invoice and marking it paid are separate, gated write actions. Claude can prepare the invoice and propose the entry, but the outbound or money-affecting step only happens after you approve it. You decide which actions run automatically and which require a confirmation step every time.
Does the Wave connector get more access than my own login?
No. The connector authenticates with your own credentials through OAuth or scoped API access and inherits your existing permissions. It never grants Claude more access to your books than you already have, and we keep read and write tools separate so you can limit what it is allowed to change.
