Full read-write Claude connector for Brex

Have Claude submit expenses and manage budgets in Brex

Stop clicking through the Brex dashboard to categorize spend and chase approvals. Claude attaches receipts, submits expenses, and adjusts budgets in the same place you already ask it to reconcile and report, with money-moving steps gated behind your approval.

Brex is a corporate card and spend platform that combines cards, expense management, bill pay, and reimbursements. Teams want Claude to do more than pull a balance: to draft and submit expenses, manage budgets, and move spend workflows forward.

What is a Brex MCP server?

A Brex MCP server is a small hosted service that exposes Brex's data and actions to Claude over the Model Context Protocol, so Claude can invoices, payments, and books inside your own account. We build it as a custom connector with separate read and write tools, and destructive actions stay gated behind your approval.

What can Brex's current connector do today?

Today, any Claude connection to Brex tends to be read-leaning: Claude can look up transactions, balances, and expense status through the API, but submitting expenses, managing budgets, and initiating vendor transfers are typically limited or out of reach. A custom Brex connector adds those write actions with scoped, human-in-the-loop controls.

What does full read-write Brex access unlock?

Full read-write Brex access lets Claude attach receipts and submit expenses, create or adjust budgets and spend limits, manage vendor records, and initiate transfers to managed vendors, each behind your approval. The spend admin work that used to mean clicking through the dashboard happens in the same place you already ask Claude to reconcile and report.

  • Categorize a transaction and attach the matching receipt and memo
  • Submit an expense for an out-of-policy purchase with a justification note
  • Create or adjust a budget and update its spend limit
  • Add or update a vendor record with payment details
  • Initiate a transfer to a managed vendor after you approve it

Can Claude submit expenses in Brex?

Yes. With a full read-write Brex connector, Claude can categorize a transaction, attach the matching receipt, add a memo, and submit the expense for you, including out-of-policy purchases with a justification note. A default, read-leaning connection usually stops at looking up transactions and status.

Can Claude create or adjust budgets in Brex?

Claude can create a budget or adjust an existing one and update its spend limit through scoped write tools. It reads current budgets and transactions for context, then drafts the change for your review. The connector never has more access than your own Brex role and permissions.

Can Claude manage vendors and initiate transfers in Brex?

Claude can add or update a vendor record and prepare a transfer to a managed vendor, but anything that moves money is a separate, gated action. The transfer is initiated only after you approve it, so nothing leaves your account by surprise. It reads current vendors and balances for context first.

How a Brex connector works

We build a small MCP server that authenticates to Brex with OAuth or a scoped API token using the narrowest scopes the work needs. Read tools (transactions, budgets, expense status) and write tools (submit expense, adjust budget, manage vendors) are separated, and money-moving or outbound actions like initiating a transfer require your confirmation. Claude never has more access than the Brex account it connects through, and we can restrict it to allowlisted IPs.

Frequently asked questions

Can Claude submit expenses in Brex, or only read transaction data?
A custom Brex connector can expose a write tool that attaches a receipt, adds a memo, and submits the expense for you. A default or read-leaning connection usually stops at looking up transactions and status, which is why submitting and categorizing at scale needs a purpose-built connector with explicit write scopes.
Will Claude move money or schedule payments without approval?
No. Anything that moves money, such as initiating a transfer to a managed vendor, is a separate, gated write action. Claude can prepare the vendor and transfer details, but it is only submitted after you approve it. You decide which steps are automatic and which always pause for a confirmation.
Can the connector see or do more in Brex than my own login?
No. The connector authenticates with your account's OAuth grant or a scoped API token, so it inherits your existing role and permissions. It never grants Claude more access than you already have, and we can scope tokens down further and restrict traffic to an allowlisted IP range.
