What can Telegram's current connector do today?
Today, Telegram has no official Claude connector, so any access goes through the Telegram Bot API or the user account API. Out of the box, Claude cannot read or post to your chats. Can Claude send a reply into a Telegram chat?
Yes. With a full read-write Telegram connector, Claude can send a message or reply into a specific chat or group thread, using your bot or scoped account and the prior conversation as context. The send is a gated action, so the message goes out only after you approve the wording.
Can Claude post an announcement to a Telegram channel?
Posting to a Telegram channel works when your bot administers it. Claude can prepare the announcement, then pin or edit it once it is live. Posting, editing, and deleting are separate, gated write actions, so the update reaches the channel only after you confirm it.
Does Claude get more access than my Telegram bot has?
No. The connector authenticates with your bot token or scoped account credentials and inherits exactly the permissions that identity already holds. A bot can only act in chats it has been added to, so Claude never reaches further into Telegram than you already can.
How a Telegram connector works
We build a small MCP server that authenticates to Telegram with a bot token or scoped account credentials, holding only the access the bot or account already has. Read tools (fetch updates, read a chat) and write tools (send, edit, pin, forward) are separated, and outbound or destructive actions like send and delete require your confirmation. If the work runs on a fixed host, we can restrict the server behind a firewall or IP allowlist.
