How a Metabase connector works
We build a small MCP server that authenticates to Metabase with an API key or a scoped session, and connects only to the instance and collections the work needs. Read tools (list questions, run query, fetch dashboard) and write tools (create question, edit dashboard, manage collection) are separated, and destructive or outbound actions like archiving or sending a subscription require your confirmation. Claude never has more access than the Metabase account it runs as, and where your instance is self-hosted behind a firewall we can restrict the server to an allowlisted IP.
