Yes. With a custom read-write connector, Claude can open a new matter and attach the relevant contact, then create and assign tasks with due dates against it. Clio has a REST API but no first-party Claude integration, so these write actions are purpose-built and scoped to your own login.
Can Claude log billable time in Clio?
Claude can log a billable time entry against the correct matter and activity, and draft activity notes or matter updates for your review. Time entries and notes flow as routine write tools, while anything that affects an invoice is separated out and applied only after you confirm it.
Will Claude get more access to client data than I have?
No. The connector authenticates as your Clio account through OAuth and inherits your existing permissions and matter visibility. It never grants Claude more access than you already have, and narrow scopes plus optional IP allowlisting keep the surface as small as your firm requires.
How a Clio connector works
We build a small MCP server that authenticates to Clio with OAuth 2.0 and the narrowest scopes the work needs. Read tools (matters, contacts, tasks) and write tools (create task, log time, update note) are separated, and anything that touches billing or sends data out requires your confirmation. The connector only ever has the access your own Clio login already has, and can be restricted to specific IP ranges if your firm requires it.
